How do I stop my cat howling?
Well, the punishment really has to fit the crime on this one. There are various ideas and techniques out there but you have to match the right technique with the right situation.
It would be pointless turning the heating down in an attempt to get your cat to bed down, if your cat is outside howling at the door. Or simarlarily, it would be a waste of time making a fuss of them if they are howling because they are hungrey. Putting both of these examples aside, here are some good ideas to help quieten kitty.
Turning the heating down to freeze your cat into bedding down to keep warm.
Making an extra fuss of them at various times throughout the day, late at night before bed could be a good time, if that is when it is playing up.
Feeding it before bed, maybe not a whole plateful but you know how a cat will shut itself away from the world once it has eaten, in order to prune itself and sleep the meal off.
Try tiring them out with the a bit of string or if your in the twentieth century, maybe a laser pointer, just watch its eyes though, those things can be a little dangerous if missused.
Another method but one that is a little callous, try a quick spray with a water bottle. This method can work it each time they act up, they get a spray. It can form lasting aversion therapy.
