Cat Training Tips
Let’s face it, they rank amongst some of the most cranky, eccentric, lovable, stubborn animals on gods green earth.
If cats could speak, they would most likely not even give us the time of day. One day your cat is super keen to jump up on your lap for its dose of affection, another day it will scarcely look at you from the other side of the room.
A creature, whose ego knows no bounds. Underneath that cuddly exterior lies an extremely complex and feral creature with a multitude of layers,
each one more unfathomable than the last. If one hopes to employ at least some level of cat behaviour modification, one needs to get to know "Mr Frisky" a little better. You may ask yourself in all of this, how can I keep my cat happy and content, in the hope that he won't act up to often and tear the house down.
How To Train Cats
Don’t think that you will be in for the same easy ride as you will with training a dog, cat’s behaviour seems to run on a whole different set of values.
For one, cats don’t need you to feed, if let out into the garden and if hungry and motivated enough, your cat will have absolutely no trouble in finding its dinner. Half of which will probably be brought back into your kitchen, still alive!
They can leave a home and find a new one within hours, so periodically remind yourself that you don’t have a whole lot of leverage when it comes to training a cat.
Subtlety is your chief approach and one you need to stick to if you want to stand any chance of changing your cat’s behaviour.
Gentle forms of aversion therapy discussed on the cat behaviour problems page should set you in good stead.
They are awkward creatures and won’t respond well to outright threats or domination techniques in the same way as a dog would. You have to earn there respect, don’t think that just by feeding them a couple of times they will become your best friend and be good as gold from then on.
